SHAKER HEIGHTS, OHIO — Najee Hardaway, a widely respected fourth-grade teacher at Lomond Elementary School and a former standout basketball player, has passed away at the age of 26. School district officials and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his passing on Monday, following a tragic traffic collision. Hardaway passed away at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
Life and Legacy
Born in 1999 or 2000, Hardaway was best known for his deep commitment to his students, his leadership among his peers, and his stellar athletic career. As a senior at Shaker Heights High School, he helped lead the Red Raiders boys basketball team to a district championship.
He went on to play five seasons at the College of Wooster, where he averaged 8.9 points per game and earned second-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) honors in 2023. His 12.3 points per game that season propelled the Fighting Scots to a league championship. Hardaway returned to his roots after graduation to serve his community as an educator.
